about

This compilation comprises songs that I recently listened to again and felt deserved to be brought out into the fresh air...

Long haired house was a demo I created whilst living in a scary block of flats in Wandsworth...Arndale centre in '82... I had to get out quick when my flatmate was threatened by a gang from Fulham.... amazed the song sounds all tinkly and full of light!

Angel, your mother and teenagers were recorded at Gateway studios in Clapham...engineered by Nick Cathcart Jones....b.vocals by Rachel Orr, drums on Your mother by Steve Laurie (Tom Robinson band)...spring '83...'teenagers' was a favourite of my publisher Stuart Newton (Hit and Run Music)...

I wrote Believe when I was 19...but finally recorded this version at RMS studios in 1989...with fabulous double bassist Chris Rodel, marvelous sax player Simon Taylor and his wizard brother Phil on piano....
It's about as jazzy as I have ever been...

Honesty (also recorded at RMS...by the tireless gent Mr Andy leVien) was written in 1980 but had to wait 9 years till I recorded it....there's a guitar part missing on this version....the final mix went missing!....again lovely double bass by Chris Rodel.... I was very lucky to have the song covered a few years later by 'The Poozies' who made a lovely folky job of it.

Peacetime and Plato were recorded in '94..Plato featured programming by the genius of Debbie Cassell as well as her slightly sped up b.vocals....again engineered by the patient Mr le Vien...
Dust was also recorded at RMS....i think 91/92.... Chris Rodel on d.bass, Debbie Cassell in piano, acoustic guitar and b.vocals...me on the rest..including triangle and kettle drum!

Western Family is missing my acoustic guitar...again the final mix has disappeared....Chris Rodel played the piano and double bass.... Mark Waldman played percussion....and on Devil and the deep and Upstairs room...
Nick Burson played drums on Candlemoon, Andy Urquhart played trumpet....

These last four songs were recorded at Woodhouse studios in Richard's Castle, near Ludlow....the studio was the residence of Immaculate Fools at the time and Andy Ross (lead guitarist /producer) popped in and added vibey mandolin on 'devil and the deep '....
I think these tracks were recorded in 1994..
It was a bit of a departure from my usual way of working....we rehearsed the songs and recorded them as live performances...adding the vocals afterwards....i think it worked quite well..

Anyway....hope you enjoy....
