Ideas in her head like birdwings
All fluttering round the eaves and
She couldn't keep still for an evening

2. The boys that she drew were humble
Enough with their clothes on the floor
But behind a door came a mumble
And a stumble and tumbling laughing

3. The villagers whispered about her
And some of the boys went round there
To find that their friends weren't missing
But dangling from her fingers

4. Once in her room white and naked
Nobody cared what she painted
Her beauty was so surrounding
Their hearts and their souls weren't grounded

That painting was not good enough
